Pharmacological & chemical profile : Triterpenes from Centella have been demonstrated in laboratory studies to have tranquillising, anti-stress and anti-anxiety action. Triterpenoids are believed to be responsible for the healing activity. Its active metabolites are asiaticoside, asiatic acid, madecassoside and madecassic acid. Centella extracts have been found to have GABA antagonist activity. Side effects and contraindications : People with diabetes or high cholesterol should be careful using pennywort and avoid high doses. Not recommended for pregnant or lactating women.
